The Orchid Garden (2019)
Kangaroo Island, South Australia
Responding to the Kangaroo Island Sculpture Trail brief Victor constructed a work encompassing 12 individual orchids. An assortment of orchids, all endangered species on KI, were made from recycled materials. – mangled steel fence posts, bent rebar and old car bonnets – sourced by the artist in the APY Lands in the heart of Australia and transported to KI at the very edge of the continent.
The flower garden reflects the diversity and uniqueness of Kangaroo Island’s native orchids highlighting the beauty of Kangaroo Island’s flora and drawing attention to the plight of the island’s endangered orchids. The flower garden itself invites visitors to reflect on the impact of humans on this pristine environment.
